Composition Competitions

August 15, 2012 is the deadline for submitting students' original compositions to the Young Composers competition. The deadline for the MTNA composition competition has not yet been set. Students are encouraged to enter both competitions (however the same piece may not be entered in both.)

Categories for both competitions are by age as of January 1, 2012:

Elementary - ages 5 - 10
Junior - ages 11 - 14
Senior - ages 15 - 18

A separate Young Composers concert held at the NCMTA Conference November 1-4, 2012 at UNC Chapel Hill will showcase the uniquely interesting and creative compositions of our North Carolina students.

An application form for the national competition (MTNA) must be completed and submitted online. The application form will not be available until August 1, 2012.

Composition Guidelines
